Interactive Compliance Tool — Gabel Energy / Energy Code Ace

Gabel Energy needed to transform their popular Non-Residential Indoor Lighting Wheel — a physical reference tool for California Title 24 commercial lighting compliance — into an interactive digital training experience for contractors and energy consultants.

I designed and built the interactive wheel in Adobe Captivate, replicating the logic of the physical tool in a format that guides users through code compliance decisions in real time. The project required translating complex regulatory content into a branching interactive experience that non-technical users could navigate without training.

The tool has been live on Energy Code Ace since delivery and updated twice as the California energy code has evolved — still in active use as a reference resource for commercial-lighting contractors and consultants in trainings and webinars.

Taking a Traditional Training Program Online — Saturn Resource Management

Saturn Resource Management had built a respected training catalog for the building performance and energy efficiency industry — delivered in person, supported by printed workbooks and DVDs mailed to customers. In 2006, as online learning began to emerge as a viable channel, Saturn needed to make the transition from physical to digital without losing the rigor that had earned them credibility with certifying bodies like BPI and RESNET.

I led the full transition: researching and selecting a platform, developing the strategy and workflow for converting the existing course catalog into online courseware, and establishing a virtual test proctoring process that met BPI's accreditation requirements — one of the first approvals of its kind in the industry. I also modernized the underlying content, converting the Residential Energy textbook from PageMaker to Adobe FrameMaker as part of the broader digital overhaul.

Saturn's Moodle platform became a durable asset — used internally for years, licensed to other training providers in the industry, and emulated by competitors who followed the same path. What started as an internal modernization project became a model for how the building performance training sector approached online delivery.

Building a Compliance Engine for Oregon's I/DD Workforce — Direct Support Learning

Direct Support Learning provides a compliance-focused training platform exclusively for Oregon agencies that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As the organization prepares for significant growth, a core problem emerged: Oregon's compliance model — where Direct Support Professionals must accumulate specific training hours across 24 state-defined Service Element categories on a rolling annual basis — had no automated solution. Critical workflows required lengthy manual processes, audit documentation was unreliable, and the platform had no way to track compliance against state requirements in real time.

As Director of Operations & Expansion, I lead the design and development of custom tooling that replaces these manual processes with automated infrastructure — collapsing multi-step administrative workflows into single actions, giving tenant administrators instant audit-ready access to compliance documentation, and providing every DSP a real-time view of their training status against Oregon's requirements.

The result is a compliance foundation built to scale — giving DSL a platform advantage that national generalist solutions can't replicate for Oregon's I/DD provider community.
